Does God Really Exist?

Does God Really Exist?

This is a big question isn’t it? Perhaps it’s one of the biggest questions you will ever ask yourself. A lot hangs in the balance in a fairly simple, yes or no question. Questions like: “How should I live my life?”, “Do I have a purpose in life?”, and “Is there life after death?” hang in the balance. If we compared the worldviews of the Christian and the atheist, we see that all of their differences are founded in this one question.

Christianity

Atheism

Does God really exist?

Yes

No

Where did the universe come from?

God created it and everything in it.

Over many years and chemical reactions the universe we live in created itself.

Where did I come from?

God loves you. He created you, gave you a body, intellect, and inherent morality. He wants you to listen and obey Him.

You are a product of billions of years of random evolution and natural selection.

Is there life after death?

Yes. God sent His Son to teach mankind the right way to live. When you die (depending on your obedience to Him) God has prepared a wonderful place for you called heaven.

No. When you die, your consciousness is gone. Your emotions, personality, and character are all gone. That’s it. Finished. Nothing…

If you have asked yourself whether God exists, have you considered the implications if He does? If the God of the Bible does exist, then you do have a purpose for living, there is a certain way to be living, there is life after death, and depending on how you’ve lived your life your eternal reservations have been made.

So…you’ve clicked on this link. Maybe you scanned the QR code. Good on ya. You’ve also read down this far. But now what? For some reason you’ve clicked on the link or scanned the code. Maybe you’re unsure about whether God exists or not and what that might mean for you. Maybe you’ve made up your mind that God doesn’t exist. Before you make a decision, do yourself a favor and ask yourself this question:

Have I honestly examined all the evidence?

That’s right! We want our faith to be based on evidence! Contrary to the beliefs of some, Christians are sensible, logical, intelligent individuals who have examined the evidence and determined that there is an remarkable amount of evidence that the world we live in was intelligently designed by a loving Creator.

Walk with us through this simple set of three logical points that we think could apply to any type of physical matter.

  1.  Something exists. (This could apply to anything, really: a latte, a bad smell, a footprint in the sand, the universe, etc.)
  2.  Every effect has a cause that is sufficient to explain it or bring it into existence. (Something or someone made this happen: made this latte, made this bad smell, made this footprint, made the universe.)
  3.  There cannot be an infinite list of causes. There eventually must be a first cause. (Ultimately, the latte did not make itself. The bad smell has a source. The footprint in the sand came from a foot.)

When we break down the complexity of the atheist’s answer to the beginning of the universe, they are basically saying, “The latte (universe) made itself OR the latte (universe) always existed.”

Did the Universe Create Itself?

Hold on; let’s take a trip back to Year 6 Science class. Do you remember the First Law of Thermodynamics? “The total energy of an isolated system is constant; energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed.”

Atheists suppose 13.6 million years ago the universe was “born” by the explosion of a ball of matter. The first law of thermodynamics asks of the atheists, “Where did that first ball of matter come from?” If matter isn’t able to create itself, where did it come from? Why does something exist instead of nothing? Something outside of the isolated system must have created the initial matter; something that is not itself finite matter.

Has the Universe Always Existed?

The first law of thermodynamics answered our last question. The second law of thermodynamics will answer this question. “The entropy (degree of disorder) of an isolated system never decreases, because isolated systems spontaneously evolve toward thermodynamic equilibrium—the state of maximum entropy.” In simpler terms this means that the universe is naturally falling into a more disorderly state. Matter and energy become less usable over time. This law of thermodynamics has led scientists to determine that the universe has not always existed and is actually winding down.

Science and logic can answer these questions for us. The universe did not create itself. The universe has not always existed. Since these facts can be proven, there must be another explanation. Someone (or something) outside of nature (supernatural) at a certain point in time caused the universe. The Bible’s definition of God fits that description perfectly. Isaiah 40:28 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”

 Evidence of Creation

So the logic makes sense, but if a supernatural nonmaterial being created the natural material world we live in, shouldn’t there be some more evidence for this? There is.

Take these three examples of the apparent design that we can see in nature:

There’s a lot more where that came from. Just check out apologeticspress.com for some very interesting and scientific evidence that this universe was created by the God of the Bible.
