Christians Only

If I spent the time to read and follow the Bible as God intends, what would that make me? Most people understand that doing this would make me a Christian. What else would it make me? It would make me a disciple of Jesus Christ. What would it not make me? It would not make me a member of some denomination. Have you ever thought about that?

The Bible only makes Christians only.

I’ve heard the above phrase a lot in the past few years, and I’m really starting to understand it. I think the world is starting to understand it, too. The world is beginning to realise that the Bible doesn’t mention a single denomination, and that’s why we see the mainline denominations shrinking. You can’t find in your Bible the Methodists, Anglicans, Mormons, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Baptists, Catholics, or any of the other churches that men have created.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

The Bible is the only tool we need for religious instruction. The word of God, not the teachings of men, can save our souls (James 1:19-21). If I want to become a Christian, all I have to do is follow the instructions set forth in God’s Scripture. On the other hand, logically, if I want to become a member of some denomination, I have to go beyond what is written, since no denomination is found or authorised in the Bible.

Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other. 1 Corinthians 4:6.

Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9.

As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! Galatians 1:9.

The Lord promised to build one church (Matthew 16:18), which is His body (Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:4). He promises to save that body (Ephesians 5:23). Humans have shaken their fists at God, inventing new churches, churches that are different from the one that He purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28). Let me ask you, is the church you’re a part of the blood-bought church of Christ?

And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 11:26.

I love you with the love of the Lord,

Lance
